Heal yourself Heal the world

Heal yourself Heal the world

Melissa Osborne

There is something to be said about the energy that arises from a genuine interpersonal encounter. It is the most ordinary thing, and it is the most important thing that we can experience and participate in.

Genuine honesty and contact is the key. Rather than trying to "cure" an illness or "fix" a problem, when a group of people, a community can come together with genuine contact and work with that intelligence, there is no way that a solution cannot be found.

We should not become too focused on the FORMS. Just be in the authenticity and let the forms become defined as they come defined.

The beginning of any endeavor us the most exciting, and spontaneous phase. There is a lot of not knowing, there is a lot of demand, a lot of trying to find our own way, trying to do the best you can.

We need to be mindful to make sure we are emphasizing description more than interpretation. Let’s find our way back to the primary experience. Experience before thought. Experiment with this idea in your life every day.

We need to realize that we are all a community. A circle of friends, no heads or tails, no one is in charge.

The circle of friends, team, or community, will only work if the tone of the circle is committed to honesty. In the context of genuine honesty, you will always know what to do.

The unfortunate truth of the world today is that many of us have to overcome a conditioned "disconnect" with our bodies. There is an influx of information, ideas and mania which we experience on a daily basis. It is important to take the time to process this internally.

Without the time to process experience with quiet mind, it is more difficult to connect our experiences with the rhythms of our bodies. Our bodies contain innate wisdom.

Calming of the nervous system is the only way to tap into this wisdom and fully process our thoughts into manifestation. It helps to stay focused on the journey, to stay focused on what really matters.

Let’s look at this from a psychoanalytic view.

In the meditation tradition, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche (who founded the Naropa institute, is a  Buddhist meditation master, scholar, teacher, poet, artist, and originator of a radical re-presentation of Shambhala vision.) began to connect the tradition of meditation and the tradition of psychotherapy. When working with people who are experiencing highly disturbed states of mind (for occupy Northampton’s sake: certain government officials, Monsanto, IMF, Federal Reserve shareholders, etc.), we must first calm and clarify our consciousness, and then take it further to begin to open up.

Only when we begin to exchange self with other can there be cultivation of compassion. Allowing ourselves to resonate with people in the highly disturbed states is necessary.

When we are participating together, we become unsure of whether it is your madness, their madness or some other madness taking hold. (Have you ever been with someone experiencing a manic episode and there is something so seductive about the high energy that it literally starts to transmit into your own psyche, this is the same idea with the way commercialism and government systems work) When we can resonate with this person or system, we can better transmit back the feelings that we have already begun to cultivate within ourselves.

Transmission - To be shown what you are already discovering, and plant the seed for further discovery.

It is an inherent part of being human to feel what is hurtful and what is full of love when making a decision. The nervous system reacts and processes long before the brain does. It is disconnect from the nervous system that allows for a chain reaction of hurtful choices. When we connect with our own rhythms, it becomes easier to transmit feelings, ideas and experience to those who have disconnected, and allow for them to have support re-inhabiting their body fully. This support does not need to be verbal, in fact, it is almost all energetic.

In my opinion, there seems to be cohesion across the board of models dealing with healing, personal, and community growth

you can visualize these models in the shape of triangles, symbolizing the importance of equal balance energy. As anonymous uses "assemble, organize, and mobilize" here are other models:

1) this is currently the model used for Network Spinal Analysis and Re-organizational healing. It is framed as a way for the individual to assess our current state and more fully understand the areas of our life which need more attention.

Structure - literally the structure of your body, what you eat, the environment in which you live, organization, etc.

Perception - how we view the big picture, how we perceive the world, ego, how you view yourself, spirituality, how connected we feel to the universe, etc.

Behavior- the action we take. The way we manifest our reality.

2) This is the current unofficial model for the Windhorse approach to psychotherapy. Windhorse is an Integrative Mental Health, non profit, organization located in Northampton, San Luis Obispo, CA, and Boulder, CO. Windhorse focuses on compassionate approach, team/community action, mutual recovery, hope of recovery, contemplative practice as well as cultivating mindful relationships and environments. This model is the framework for balanced teamwork and relationship development.

Body - Precision, Domestic, How we care for our bodies, the structure around us.

Speech- compassionate relationships, interpersonal connection, circle of friends.

Mind- basic openness of mind, freedom, connection of the mind to body, connection to the human experience, group contemplative practice. Basic attendance to a situation.

3) This is my personal model for change, particularly for organizing and sustaining action and ideas in the community.

Foundation- human beings, support for change, environmental basic needs met

Platform- genuine honesty, compassionate speech, freedom of information, democratic decision making, motivation

Action- compassionate action, community support, contemplative practice, mind/body connection, peaceful protest.

We are all healers. And right now we are attempting to heal the world. This can only be done if we actively participate in our own healing and the healing of those around us.

This is not an easy path. In fact, taking the time to sit with ourselves one of the most courageous actions/non-action that one can take. To come face to face with the decisions we have made, facilitate realization of self. Sometimes it can seem overwhelming to take on the indescribable mind we all share. Think of it as courageous aloneness rather than loneliness, when sitting with yourself and connecting. Be gentle with yourself. Everyone has done things that they are not proud of; everyone has hurt, been hurt and been hypocritical. The difference is that if you participate in your healing, you will no longer be stagnant. Rise up through yourself, move your life-force energy through and unblock the "stuck" places you may feel in your body and life.

Only then can we begin to make a difference.

so here we are in this world of light and happen to fall ungovernably in love with another person.

when the best part of me ressonates with the best part of you, thats the beauty of it all. thats the love. opening up to someone that fully is the closest we can ever get to god, or spirit, or divine, or whatever you want to call it, because when it comes down to it, even if things blow up in the end, there is no doubt that when it was real, it was REAL and compassionate and full.

when i am old and gray, i wont be counting the number of times my heart got broken, or the number of lies that were told, i will count the hours in which i felt my  body electric, and remember the sweetest moments of breathing in compassion and truth.

life is good.

mmkay so over the last few months of network spinal analysis entrainments (so its been about 4 1/2 months and like 40 entrainments in) and i feel like i fully inhabit my body.

this morning while standing at the bus stop, listening to "explosions in the sky", the sun was shining on my face and i closed my eyes and let the sun wash over me for about 5 minutes and in that moment realized that my body and mind for the first time since i could recognize, are working at the same ryhythm.

Gratitude. Realizing that I am completely content and have everything I need to be well. So guess thats the difference, you know, between giving gratitude and being full of gratitude. Thats what I i realized today. For the past few years i have expressed in many ways but even the most litteral of affirmations and spoken word "love and gratitude" but today i realized that the manifestation of gratitude in the body on a the cellular level is the most powerful.

Basically came to grips with, whoa, I am working a job which lets me express my individuality, which is extremely educational on spiritual and physical and mental levels, and happens to be on the path of "career" - if you will - which i am most passionate in.

Also that I am living in a supportive environment and for really the least expensive rent I have seen in northampton.

Also, the fact that the things I love the most are mostly free - yoga, hiking, biking, music and reading. in addition, having had so many beautiful souls teach me the lessons which create the rhythm of my life (thank you brenda, jani, josh, thank you grand canyon, thank you catherine, thank you family, thank you mouna, thank you mark, Thank you brian, thank you alan, Thank you zachary, thank you stephen, thank you nic, thank you ken, thank you jami, thank you amir. As if they will ever read this, but it feels good to just see it in type) , mountains, holistic methods of taking care of myself body mind and spirit, not to mention the amazing experience of building the house in colorado.

I am living a generally sustainable life - biking most places, not using much electricity, eating a mostly local and veggie based diet, and the knowledge of how to deal with stress, confrontation, and the ability to really sit with myself, and hear what my body is saying subconsciously before I even realized I made the best decision.

More healthy than Ive ever been in my life, body and soul.

Network chiropractic has changed the way my nervous system reacts to triggers, new information, lets go of old "stories" held in this body of mine, theres just so much I could say about it. \

I dont usually make large plans for the distant future, but I feel that saying " I will be a network chiropractor someday" is pretty spot on with what my body is telling me. So there we go. I said it.

life is good.

Alan Watts

There are two great theories in astronomy going on right now about the origination of the universe. One is called the explosion theory, and the other is called the steady state theory. The steady state people say there never was a time when the world began, it's always expanding, yes, but as a result of free hydrogen in space, the free hydrogen coagulates and makes new galaxies. But the other people say there was a primoridial explosion, an enormous bang billions of years ago which flung all the galazies into space. Well let's take that just for the sake of argument and say that was the way it happened.

It's like you took a bottle of ink and you threw it at a wall. Smash! And all that ink spread. And in the middle, it's dense, isn't it? And as it gets out on the edge, the little droplets get finer and finer and make more complicated patterns, see? So in the same way, there was a big bang at the beginning of things and it spread. And you and I, sitting here in this room, as complicated human beings, are way, way out on the fringe of that bang. We are the complicated little patterns on the end of it. Very interesting. But so we define ourselves as being only that. If you think that you are only inside your skin, you define yourself as one very complicated little curlique, way out on the edge of that explosion. Way out in space, and way out in time. Billions of years ago, you were a big bang, but now you're a complicated human being. And then we cut ourselves off, and don't feel that we're still the big bang. But you are. Depends how you define yourself. You are actually--if this is the way things started, if there was a big bang in the beginning-- you're not something that's a result of the big bang. You're not something that is a sort of puppet on the end of the process. You are still the process. You are the big bang, the original force of the universe, coming on as whoever you are. When I meet you, I see not just what you define yourself as--Mr so-and- so, Ms so-and-so, Mrs so-and-so--I see every one of you as the primordial energy of the universe coming on at me in this particular way. I know I'm that, too. But we've learned to define ourselves as separate from it.

Love and Life and taking action.

Life. Its interesting how fragile and strong we are. Love and hate, grief and abundance, support and solitude. Polars. Life and death. there is no good, no bad, there just is. Its the human condition which puts labels on it all. Emotion, love compassion, we are so lucky to be able to feel, without it what would it be worth.

So many of us spend the majority of our time doing things that we arent happy with. work for example, some spend their whole lives working working for money, to buy things, accumulating "things" to build the "happiness" they need. To go on that vacation, to buy that new car, to buy that new dress, all external. They say money cant buy happiness. This is true to a point, Obviously we need to make money to get by in todays society to get by, to use as a stepping stone in order to live the life we dream of, but what happens when you buy that car or take that vacation and find yourself driving to or coming back from vacation to the job which keeps you staring at the clock like a mad man, picking at your nails till the clock ticks 5pm? What then?

So many of us feel like we need to always be doing productive things, doing doing doing doing. We are human BEINGS not human doings. What is it all worth if we cant sit, and be, comfortable, just being, with ourselves? not much.

Thats the scariest part though huh? because if we take that time, to just listen to ourselves, and breath, thats when the real work comes. facing our demons, facing our weaknesses. Sometimes thats just too much for people to handle, and so the years go by, married to the people they arent in love with anymore, stuck in a job they hate, until one day, when old and gray, all of it hits at once... midlife crisis or late life crisis... all i know is thats not going to be me.

the last few years have been the biggest struggle, and the most beautiful moments of my life have been strewn about in it all. knowing now what i want, who i dont want to be, what i want to learn, and most importantly, knowing that i love myself, good and bad, weak or strong, tears or laughter, its all me!

its all you too. love it. learn it. feel it.

most importantly, we all have to TAKE ACTION. dont just talk about it.

that includes love, how we earn our money, the way we treat eachother, the way we treat ourselves (which by the way, during this metamorphosis, we have to be easy on ourselves. noone is perfect, we have all made decisions we arent happy with, we have all hurt people, we have all "failed" at things, and its ok, because thats the only way it could have happened, because thats all we knew at the time, thats the only way we couldve reacted, but the difference, is once we realize these things, and come to terms with them, and get to know the way we react to situations, and get to know what works for our body chemistry and get to know what we really want deep inside, thats when the decisions we make change, the actions change, subconsciously and consciously we start working for a higher consciousness, a life worth living.

and by the way. .get active! go to the gym, climb mountains, run on the dirt roads, play in the snow, dance, go to a yoga class... thats half the battle. we arent meant to be sedentary, we are animals. Society says "adhd is on the rise, bipolar is on the rise, obesity is on the rise, insomnia is on the rise", maybe thats because people arent active enough? it doesnt seem like brain science to me. There is too much craziness going on in the world to try and sort it out sitting down. Our minds arent meant to work like that. Get the electricity moving through your body, its amazing how our thoughts will clear up and the path we need to take will show itself.

also read. i dont even have to go into that one. we live ON the information superhighway. you are never too old, too young, too anything to learn and allow the flood of information available create new river beds in our minds.

enough of my rambling. love yourself, love everyone you meet, have compassion most of all, love the trees and the sun and the mountains, because everything IS everything, the universe is you and you are the universe and you are the vibrations hitting your eardrum which makes the most beautiful song.
